John Lamoon
It was with great sadness that The Over Players had to announce in January 2015 the loss of their biggest ever contributor, John Lamoon.
John started backstage in our first production of Cinderella in 1985 and was cajoled on to the stage in the our next production of Put That Light Out. He was bitten by the bug and went on to play the pantomime Dame no less than 14 times.
He had many lead roles including Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, 18 years ago, and we will be dedicating our forthcoming production of Fiddler to John's memory.
John went on to direct many shows including Wind in the Willows, Dad's Army and 'Allo, 'Allo as well as playing the lead character, Rene.
Last year, to great acclaim, he directed a Shakespeare production of All's Well That Ends Well in the Vicarage Gardens.
John organised a number of trips to Palma, Majorca where we performed Music Halls to raise funds for different charities. The last time he appeared on stage was as MC at The Community Centre in another Music Hall which raised £711 for the Over Day Care Minibus Appeal.
He was also the Chairman of our Committee for many years. His contribution to the group was second to none.
John was always the backbone of The Over Players, appearing in 60+ productions, and he will be missed tremendously by everyone who knew him.
