Welcome to The Over Players
An amateur dramatics group based in the village of Over in Cambridgeshire
Sleeping Beauty - 10th to 14th Dec. at Over Community Centre
Written by Ben Crocker and directed by Hannah Whiffin:
The evil fairy Carabosse lays a curse on baby Princess Aurora at her christening, declaring that by her 18th birthday she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. The good fairy Peaceful manages to weaken the curse, allowing the princess to fall into 100 years of sleep instead of dying, to be awoken by true love's kiss.
Jumping forward 18 years to Princess Aurora's 18th birthday, everyone is excited and getting ready for the celebrations. Enter Prince Orlando where the pair quickly fall in love.
Meanwhile, The King, The Queen and Billy are making a terrible mess in the kitchen while trying to bake the princess a birthday cake, before running in to trouble with a mischievous rat. . . . pandemonium ensues!
Bring the whole family to join in with the fun and laughter!
Adult: £10, Child (up to 18 years): £8, Family (2 adults & 2 children): £32

Murder Mystery Evening at St Mary's Church Hall
It's 7pm on a chilly Sunday evening in August. The action takes place at the vicarage of 'St Ignatius the Unflappable' in the small village of Steeply Willows of the 'Grimeford and Huntley' diocese.
The impending 'Summer Fayre', which is to raise money in aid of the 'Church Restoration Appeal' is causing quite a stir around the village, as is the fact that there's shortly to be a vacancy for the post of the next Bishop!
Why would anyone want to murder the Vicar??
This was a well attended event and we would like to extend a big thank-you to all who came along.
Old Time Music Hall - Spring 2024 at Over Community Centre
In Victorian times, before television, comedy clubs and variety shows were invented, Music Halls not only provided affordable entertainment, but also generally included an opportunity to drink!
This was an unmissable chance to experience a slice of history, with songs, dances and comedy sketches, all brought together by a Master of Ceremonies introducing each act and adding extra humour of his own!
The audience was also encouraged to participate, all in a relaxed atmosphere with lots of raucous fun. Things may have even got a little risqué at times!
A delightful blend of entertainment and nostalgia, with plenty of opportunity to join in!
Period costume was entirely optional!

Over Players Quiz Night - 3rd Nov at Over Community Centre
The Over Players Quiz night!
Thanks to Candy, Jack and Andy for setting the questions, organising and running this event, and of course to all who supported us, helping to make this a most enjoyable and successful evening!
The proceeds will be used to help fund our future productions, including our 2023 Pantomime - Treasure Island (don't forget to book your tickets!).
Charity Fundraiser - Murder at Hangman Hall
Thank you to all who attended our Murder Mystery Charity Fundraiser 'Murder at Hangman Hall' on 16th September 2023.
The play, which was performed by kind permission of the author, Sean Baker, was performed to a sellout audience and provided an evening of intrigue, misdirection, and of course Murder!
The event was held in memory of Wendy Lowe and, judging by all the positive comments received, was greatly enjoyed by many.
Thank you also to everyone who was involved, in any way, in making the event such a huge success.
We raised £1000 in total and this enabled us to donate £500 to each of the two charities – Maggie's and the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Jane Austen's 'Pride & Prejudice'
The Over Players recreated the world of Mr Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet as they overcame their egos and put aside their animosity for each other in this classic retelling of Pride and Prejudice, based on the beloved novel by Jane Austen and using the dramatised script by Claudia Haas.
We also released a series of cast interviews to give you a flavour of the show and introduce you to those involved in this adaptation of one of the greatest love stories ever written. Please go to our interview page to take a look.

The Over Players have been fortunate to secure the licence to perform Me and My Girl, first presented in this version (re-written by Stephen Fry) at the Adelphi Theatre, London on 12th February 1985. The musical was subsequently revived at Chichester Festival Theatre from July to August 2018, starring Matt Lucas as Bill and Caroline Quentin as the Duchess of Deane.
Overview:
"Bill Snibson, a Lambeth costermonger, is revealed to be the new Earl of Hareford and his newly-discovered aristocratic relations are horrified. Bringing him to Hareford Hall, they attempt to educate Bill into the ways of the gentry and to separate him from his cockney girlfriend Sally. The result? Chaos of the most comical kind! With a host of hilarious characters, witty one-liners and several toe-tapping, uplifting songs (including the famous Lambeth Walk, The Sun Has Got His Hat On and Leaning On A Lamp Post), Me and My Girl is a sublime and sunny treat for all fans of musical comedy!"
Concert - Songs from the Shows
Friday 26th November and Saturday 27th November 2021 at Over Community Centre
With all the uncertainty around, we made the tough decision not to produce a pantomime this year. However, not wanting to be beaten, we decided instead to put on a concert of popular songs from some of the big musicals we have performed over the years such as Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, Me and My Girl and The Sound of Music.
The concert was a great success - thank you to all who joined us on stage and everyone who came to see it!
